Glow Getter

Highlighter was definitely the biggest makeup trend in 2016 and it isn't going anywhere this year either! Adding a glow to any look really makes you look fresh and adds dimension to your face instead of looking flat and lackluster. Highlighters can be used on any skin tone and they really add the most glamorous finishing touch to any makeup look!

These are the powder highlighters I own going clockwise: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Show Gold, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Global Glow, OFRA Highlighter in Rodeo Drive, and Dior Shimmer Powder in Amber Diamond (which has been discontinued but Milani in the drugstore make a similar version!)
The MAC Show Gold one is gold with a pink duo-chrome that is perfect for a fun night out or a festival. MAC Global Glow is the best way to achieve the 'bronzed goddess' highlight that always catches the light in the most perfect way (would look amazing on darker skin tones as well). Rodeo Drive by OFRA is a true gold and great for medium skin tones. And lastly, Dior Amber Diamond is a champagne shade when all the colors have mixed and I would recommend this shade for lighter skin tones. Each give off amazing pigmentation and when added to the tops of you cheeks give the perfect glow!
To get that lit from within look, go for a cream highlighter!
MAC strobe cream is perfect to use under or over foundation to cast a sheen onto the skin. Charlotte Tilbury's Wonderglow is an amazing primer that gives your skin an instant 'spotlight' effect. And the NYX Born to Glow liquid illuminator is the same as the MAC strobe cream but in a bronze shade and more affordable as it's from the drugstore!
In my opinion the method of application is the most important part of highlighting with powders! You don't want a brush that is too dense that will really pack on the shade, but you also don't want one that barely applies any product. So these are my favorite brushes to apply my powder highlighters with:
From left to right: Anastasia Beverly Hills brush in A23, Real Techniques contour brush, elf mineral powder brush, and a fan brush that I bought at a craft store!
If you want to add extra dimension or want the duo chrome of a shade like Show Gold to pop, then spray MAC fix plus onto your brush and you'll be a shimmering goddess in no time!
Other honorable mentions include Glossier's haloscope, Becca shimmering skin perfectors, and Charlotte Tilbury's film star bronze and glow as seen on Nikki pictured above!

Here is the work of some of my favorite celebrity makeup artists that love a good glow:
