Phoebe Philo

Phoebe Philo has decided to step down as the creative director of Céline and the whole fashion industry is in a state of panic. She has held the position since 2008 and has really defined the look of the Céline woman over the past 10 years. Phoebe remade the label for 'unfussy, minimally chic, professional women' with many successful bags created during her tenure. Before she reinvented Céline, Philo graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1996 and worked at Chloe from 1997 to 2006, assuming the role of creative director in 2001 when Stella McCartney left to start her own label. Below,  I've gone through the Vogue Runway archives and highlighted my favorite looks from each Ready-to-Wear show that she had created while at Céline.

Philo's first collection with Céline really excited the fashion industry and put the label back on the map. "I just thought I'd clean it up. Make it strong and powerful—a kind of contemporary minimalism," she said of the Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection.

Fall 2010 RTW

"Phoebe Philo has always had a great sense of who she is. That centeredness informs her way of designing clothes that reflect fashion as it's really lived, rather than anything arty or conceptual, and it gives her work the vitality so many young women identified with during her wildly successful pre-marriage, pre-family run at Chloe." -Vogue

The brand's Pre-Fall 2018 collection, to be presented to the press in Paris in January, will be Philo's last collection. As for where she is off to next is a mystery. Some have speculated that she will take over at Burberry or even start her own label... we'll just have to wait and see!
