The Solution

The secret to a flawless complexion comes in the form of chemical exfoliants. About two years ago I noticed that my skin developed dry patches on my chin and around my nose and no amount of moisturizer helped the situation. The problem wasn’t lack of moisture but it was that my skin needed better exfoliation. Physical scrubs like the St. Ives Apricot scrub were always too harsh for my skin so now that I’ve found the alternative I’m never going back! They aid in the turnover of skin cells, so your skin is producing more healthy skin cells (and letting go of the dull, dead ones).

These skin perfecting products create a smooth surface for makeup to apply amazingly on while not stripping the skin like some average toners. They also leave you with a radiant complexion 24/7.

When to apply a chemical exfoliant?
1. Cleanser
2. SOLUTION (Apply once or twice daily)
3. Serum
4. Moisturizer
5. Sunscreen (In the morning)

It’s very important to apply sunscreen afterwards in the morning because chemical exfoliators increase sensitivity to the sun.

Firstly, I want to talk about the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I received this product for Christmas last year and my bottle is still going strong! The morning after I tried this my skin was extremely clear and it left me with a glow that I never experienced before. It’s targeted to all skin types and promises radiant, even-toned skin, redness reduction, and to unclog and diminish enlarged pores. I can say with confidence that this product does all of that! They recommend you use it after cleansing and toning. Retails at $29 for 4 fl oz. (Get 15% off when you buy off of Dermstore! Not an ad, just a tip!)

The first liquid exfoliant that I tried was the Pixi Glow Tonic as everyone and their mother was talking about it on YouTube. It’s readily available to purchase at Target so I grabbed a travel sized one and gave it a go. It tingles and I would say it does brighten but it’s basically a little stronger than your average toner, not as strong as the Paula’s Choice one. So maybe if you’re new to the chemical exfoliant world or a bit younger start off with this product! Retails at $15 for 3.4 fl oz.

Then the reason I’m writing about this post is because Glossier just launched their very own chemical exfoliant called Solution. Solution blends three chemical exfoliators: acids that gently remove dead skin cells and debris. They are: BHA, AHA, and PHA. It acts as a toner (so no need to apply one beforehand) but also improves the clarity, brightness, and texture of your skin. I’ve only been trying it out for a week so I can’t give a full review but I have been getting compliments on my skin so it must be doing something right! Retails at $24 for 4.4 fl oz.

Also all three of these are NOT tested on animals!
