Met Gala 2018: Heavenly Bodies

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

Last night the 2018 Met Gala took place in New York City and fashion's finest stepped out in some insane garments. This year the theme was 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination' and many played the part while others made their own rules. This night is for designers to represent their interpretation of the theme on models and celebrities with help from makeup artists and hair stylists to create living works of art. This is the biggest exhibit the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum has ever held and it takes place in NYC during the summer.

Now let's take a look at what went down last night:

Blake Lively in Atlier Versace and Christian Louboutin shoes.
Just the bodice of her gown reportedly took over 600 hours to be embroidered.
Gigi Hadid wore a stained glass effect Atlier Versace gown.
Lana Del Rey went with Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele, and Jared Leto.
Lana wore a custom Gucci long sleeve silk lady and lace gown inspired by Our Lady of Sorrows.
Alexa Chung kept it sweet and simple in bespoke ALEXACHUNG, amazing jewels, and vampy makeup.
She drew inspiration from Anne Boleyn, scenes from Romeo + Juliet and the Seven Deadly Sins.
Kate Bosworth in Oscar de la Renta.
I died over this look and all the detail that went into her veil.
Lily Collins in Givenchy Haute Couture.
The dress is lovely but the hair and makeup really made her look stand out among the rest.
Sienna Miller in Louis Vuitton.
Jewel-encrusted headdresses were seen non-stop last night and I loved it!
Saint Laurent girls ZoĆ« Kravitz and Kate Moss looked amazing but weren't exactly on theme...
As one commenter wrote though, "you don't become a fashion icon by following dress codes", when talking about Kate's look.
Bella Hadid looking sinful in Chrome Hearts.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looking angelic in custom Ralph Lauren Collection.
Diane Kruger in Prabal Gurung.
Shoutout to these guys for getting dressed up for the occasion.
Cole Spouse in Thom Brown / Troye Sivan in Valentino / Jared Leto in Gucci with a very on theme embroidered liturgical stole / Andrew Garfield in Tom Ford
Kendall Jenner kept it sleek and simple in Off-White.
Cute couples of the evening!
Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin in Tommy Hilfiger
Tom Brady and Gisele in Versace
Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk in Versace

Now onto the ensembles that really stayed true to the theme:
Katy Perry slayed the game in Versace
Queen SJP in Dolce & Gabbana
Cara Delevigne in Dior Haute Couture and Rita Ora in Prada kept it sultry with their head-dresses and added pops of color to contrast the black gowns.
Rihanna shut it down in this pope inspired look by Maison Margiela and Zenday went all out in Atlier Versace.
Winnie Harlow in Tommy Hilfiger / Taylor Hill in Diane von Furstenberg / Stella Maxwell in Moschino

Now onto the exhibit...!!
