The Nineties Called...

Tuesday, May 1, 2018

The nineties called and they want their hair accessories back. Clips, barrettes, and headbands are making their way back onto the fashion scene and I hate myself for throwing away all my childhood hair accessories (not the butterfly clips though - those can stay in the past). This trend caught my eye thanks to good old instagram and all the gals sporting this throwback trend during fashion week. The runways have also been hinting at this comeback with designers such as Gucci, Saks Potts, and Alexa Chung all paying homage to the nineties.

Alexa Chung in an Ashley Williams girls hair pin
Bella Hadid on the runway and out and about with some barrettes
New York-based label KHAITE has the dreamiest lookbooks that include thick headbands reminiscent of the ones CBK would wear.
Speaking of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, she was the ultimate nineties dream

Influencers of today have their own take on this trend:
Camille Charriere in a Simone Rocha barrette
Courtney Trop in layers upon layers of bobby pins

Pandora Sykes paying homage to Margot Tenenbaum
Diletta Bonaiuti sporting a velvet padded headband

How to elevate the headband for a night out thanks to Giorgia Tordini, Diletta, Olivia Palermo, and Courtney.
Inspiration from the runways and the tv screen:

Dolce & Gabbana headbands with a regal twist
Saks Potts and Toteme - Scandinavian brands sporting their take on clips and headbands
One of my favorite Charlotte York looks on Sex and the City
Blair Waldorf was never without a hair accessory on Gossip Girl
The headband queen: Cher Horowitz
Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot Tenenbaum

Lastly, my take on the trend over the summer at The Met

Time to shop the trend:

Can't wait to add more hair accessories to my collection!
