Practice Safe Sun

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

We can't deny the rise in temperature and along with that comes a lot of sunshine in the sweet summertime. It's time to take precautions and use sunscreen and fashion to protect ourselves from the harmful rays.

SPF is a measure of how long a person can stay in the sun before its UVB rays start to burn the skin. If your skin would normally burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 15 sunscreen would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150 minutes (15 times longer). This is a rough estimate that depends on skin type, intensity of sunlight and amount of sunscreen used.

Broad Spectrum means that sunscreen offers effective protection against both UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B) rays, the solar wavelengths proven to damage the skin.

Physical (mineral) sunblock made with zinc oxide is the best and safest option.

Choose a sunscreen that you feel comfortable using daily + is “broad spectrum” and SPF30 or higher.

Don’t forget to protect lips, ears, hairline, neck, feet, and hands.

Apply sunscreen before make-up or use a moisturizer with build-in SPF. To touch up during the day: use a setting spray or powder sunscreen.
